there are jump scares
spoiler
I hate jump scares, but this has a few that technically qualify, but they’re very few and some don’t even have an occupying sound. Without spoilers, I’ll try to describe them.
First of all, there’s a scene where Kris (Hannah Einbinder) slowly approaches a projector, and says, “I feel like there’s about to be a jump scare.” There’s not; it’s a joke about not punctuating the tension with a jump scare.
The rest qualify:
- After Billy (Gillian Anderson) assures Kris that there’s no one else in the house they’re staying in, she tells her to look for herself. Kris enters the room alone, and there’s silence as she looks around. There’s a sudden noise, but it’s a fake out jump scare.
- Kris smokes a joint and looks in a mirror. As she’s looking, the reflection changes suddenly. There’s no auditory sting with this one, but it may be startling.
- In the scene that follows, Kris looks up at the ceiling as she lays on the floor. There’s a sudden cut to a disquieting image on the ceiling. No auditory sting here, either.
- Towards the end, Kris is running around the woods in her underwear. A character pops up suddenly as she’s running around, however, it’s played for laughs.
That’s really it. It’s not a film focused on jump scares

The chicken scene the other user mentioned qualifies, but I would also highlight an earlier scene where Kris is watching a movie on DVD. She has a dream afterwards that ends with a loud, linger static noise, which really triggered my misophonia, but that could just be the sound system in my particular screen. It was very overwhelming

most excessive moments include someone being stabbed with a geyser of blood shooting out (shown from afar), two decapitations which lead to a fountain of blood being released, a character being smashed against a pole and exploding into a mess of gore, and a character having their stomach cut open and then being cut in half horizontally. all of this is not quite as graphic as it sounds as it is all in the camp miasma film, so it has a comedic/campy tone to it. plus, a lot of it is achieved with CGI that is not particularly realistic
